Did you know that the van Gogh museum has a late night opening on Fridays with music and drinks and all?
Now you do.
Did you know that you can have the best Thai I've ever had (outside of a tiny restaurant in Cape Town which I had discovered entirely by accident) in Amsterdam at The Bird?
Now you do.
The Zeedijk is a beautiful bit of Amsterdam I'd never visited before. The waiting line for The Bird was long, but moved really quickly and we were seated within about 10 minutes. The service is very very quick and professional, but maybe a little perfunctory.
The green curry was amazingly fragrant and the red was full of body.
Recommended ++.
i'll keep that in mind when i am in Amsterdam. The van Gogh fact is amazing. Imagine getting tipsy with Vincent.
Thai food is my absolute favourite type of world cuisine. The Bird is truly great, as you have discovered, and Zeedijk is always an excellent spoit for restaurants especially oriental ones.
So...Ssssh....don't tell anyone else but I can also heartily recommend Café Sjaalman, Prinsengracht 178. Great Thai food with western influences, fantastic ambience and excellent service. Great for an evening out.
Also just down the road from this, on the bridge, where the Rozengracht meets Marnixstraat is THE most delightful little Thai Café who's name currently escapes me...very cheap and basic decor, more for take away meals but they do have a few simple tables too and they make the best Tom Kha Khai in the whole world.
Finally, by far the most authentic, most reviewed and most popular Thai restaurant in Amsterdam, booking is essential ALWAYS. The White Elephant, around the corner from the Albert Cuypstraat market at Van Woustraat 3. This is great for a proper evening out too, the food is just excellent and the service exemplary.
Oooo I think I'll become a restaurant critic. If you like Indian food too, I have some excellent local tips.
